SOME WRITING BY GC

Matthew's Wrath
By GC

Winds howled, toppled trees
--root ditches gouged the soil

Downed palm fronds littered yards,
Spanish moss blanketed grasses

Roofs were ripped from moorings
exposing interiors to the deluge

Sea surge flattened docks
throwing boats to terra firma

Power outages darkened homes,
generators sputtered, some failed

Roads were cluttered with detritus
blocking evacuee's attempted return

Supermarkets were shuttered,
foodstuffs within rotted, withered

Pharmacies were closed
medicines became unavailable

Mobilized State Guard units
distributed MREs and bottled water

Slowly, inexorably folk returned
to their devastated communities

In times of stress we find
that the plain folk are strong

Destruction is dealt with,
good people lend their hands

Time, diligence, hard work
will, in time, return normalcy

Winds, surge, and rain wreaked havoc,
but Matthew's wrath is past and life goes on
